Oil-seeds: great help in tiny seeds
Many people think about different oil-seeds merely as hidden fat and they eliminate them from their diet. However, these tiny delicacies are invaluable for the body.
Sunflower-seed, peanut, Turkish nut, pumpkin seed, almond, sesame seed… All attractive treats that are unfairly considered merely desserts. If you regard them as sources of fat, do not forget that although fat in oil-seeds does mean calories, this is unsaturated fat. No wonder the oil pressed cold out of oil-seeds (such as nut oil, sesame oil or pumpkin oil) is rich in essential fat acids.
The essential oil to be found in oil-seeds is rich in anti-oxidants for the most part, therefore helps to fight against free radicals. Certain oil-seeds possess curing power which makes them one of the most important dietary supplements. In which areas can we count on oil-seeds?
For example an unbalanced hormone system - mostly caused by insufficient diet - may have many hazardous effects. Taking oil-seeds into consideration helps to normalize weight and to re-establish the balance of our body.
The high calcium content of oil-seeds can help to prevent osteoporosis, but due to their high zinc and selenium content, they are also able to revive decreased sexual activity. To stay at lower parts, pumpkin seed stands out of oil-seeds since it can be especially important for men in case of prostate problems.

We would not think about it but oil-seeds may provide effective help for instance in giving up smoking: the stress resulting from the first period of smoke-free life can be eased in a natural way with the help of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) found in cereals, bran products, wheat germ, and most importantly, oil-seeds. Vitamin B1 is equally important, for it reduces anxiety, soothes the nerves and it is to be found in oil-seeds in high proportion. Of course not only stress resulting from non-smoking can be cured with oil-seeds, but they help to ease any kind of stress, along with eliminating coffee, salt, alcohol, black tea and chocolate from our diet and complement "pressured" meals with a lot of fruit (banana, orange) and oil-seeds.
Instead of milk?
In the case of vegetarian diet, oil-seeds play a crucial role, too, since they provide the body with mineral substances, fibers and vitamins. But they can do so much else apart from substituting meat. Although milk is indispensable in the diet of children, if your child has cow protein allergy, you have to omit dairy products form his or her diet. However, nutrients lost this way have to be substituted. In these cases, oil-seeds can help too, for example mixed into meals in finely grained form. Since they contain countless vitamins that dissolve in fat - as well as organic fat and calcium-, they are incredibly nutritive. High calcium content is generally true in case of the different oil-seeds, but let us highlight the importance of sesame seeds, which contain more calcium than cow milk.
In case of infants under the age of one it is worth waiting with oil-, since they may cause allergy. It is best therefore to introduce one kind of oil-seed into the child's diet at once, so that should any problem arise, it is easy to switch.
