All about sour cherry

Sour cherry is a popular fruit in Hungary, and could be even more popular if everyone knew that it may be a better remedy than some medicines.

Sour cherry is present everywhere from the Balkans to North India and it cannot be missing from any family garden or orchard in our country. This is not only due to the undemanding nature of e plant, but also the fact that the fruit has a lot of beneficial effects: most importantly, it is an excellent source for calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron, and as regards vitamins, also vitamins A, C and all kinds of vitamin B.

Eating fresh sour cherry or juice gained from it when it is in season, or any time in the form of bottled fruit or dried pieces, the fiber content of the fruit perks up your metabolism, or can even have a laxative effect. Sour cherry has a widely known liver, kidney and blood cleansing effect. It is also an old and reliable herb as diuretic, and not only the cherries themselves but also the stems - they make an excellent herbal tea.

We know of numerous curative effects of the cherry: it has a beneficial effect on blood pressure and heartrhythm problems and also on the activity of the nerve system and, due to its cleansing character, it also helps prevent gout. Further, it stabilizes the unbalanced hormone system and its negative consequences due to ageing without medicines, it cures diseases of the mouth and strengthens weak teeth.

Some diseases that concern respiratory organs can also be cured by eating sour cherry since the sour taste annihilates viruses while its vitamin content strengthens the immune system - so, any cold-like illness can be effectively cured by sour cherry. Especially recommended for mums-to-be.

Sour cherry can also help you maintain healthy skin since due to its antioxidant composition, you can achieve a rejuvenating, refreshing and vitalizing result by applying it externally, in the form of moisturizers containing sour cherry extract, face masks or just eating it fresh.
