All about apricot

You would think the old man is sixty, while he is actually 109, and he still goes to work every morning with his wife to the fields, and they have been together for 84 years. They are not the only couple out of the people living in the Hunza valley who reach an incredibly old age. Their physical and mental fitness is most probably due to, aside from continuous work and exercise, the only fruit around their residence: apricot.

Peach and apricot are of Asian origin. Their outstanding nutritive content and advantageous effects on the body differ only a little. All of them are to be considered one of our most valuable foods - nothing is a better proof for this than the fact that even astronauts take some to cover their needed portion of nutrients. This is all because peach contains nutrients like vitamins A and C, beta carotene and some enzymes, amino acids and trace elements - most importantly potassium, sulfur and phosphorus in quantities unprecedented among fruits.

Compared to fresh fruit, the dried form of peach contains the same elements to a greater extent and in concentrated from. Traditionally one can make bottled fruit or jam out of peach with just a minimal loss of its valuable elements. you can also gain cold pressed cooking oil from the stone of apricot, but you might also eat it, for example instead of almond. However, you should not eat too much of apricot, since all kinds of peach enhance digestion - even to the point of functioning as laxative -, because of its fibrous flesh.

As for its effects on the body, the outstandingly high proportion of vitamin A, sulphur and beta carotene, peach helps fight and prevent cancer-related diseases. By the same token, eating peach is favourable in the case of vascular diseases, and it also improves poor sight in the case of insufficient blood pressure. Peach also rejuvenates skin, vitalizes hair and nails.

Cosmetic industry utilizes peach externally, in the form of creams, face masks, even as skin scrub based on smashed peach stone. Eating fresh, juicy peach also contributes to the health of our teeth.

Because of all these beneficial effects, eating peach in highly recommended for young and old - a reason why peach can be one of the first mashed fruit meals of babies.
